At Montrose Grace Place we provide a safe space to youth experiencing homelessness of all sexualities and genders; providing nourishment, healthy relationships, and hope for the future. Our evenings are centered around a family style meal that our youth enjoy with direct mentors. A sit down dinner with loved ones is something nearly everyone can appreciate. The youth at Montrose Grace Place don't have this type of support in their daily lives especially from adults or mentors. Sitting down at a table for dinner gives youth the chance to not only relax and enjoy a home cooked meal but to develop their relationships with others. Along with a safe space and dinner, we support our youth's immediate needs through our activities like health seminars with Legacy, creative writing with Writers in the Schools, computer literacy courses with Salesforce, and more. We also connect youth with other resources in the community for housing, job openings, and obtaining identification; and provide bus passes, and access to our clothing and toiletry closet for needed supplies. In addition to these immediate needs we offer a space for youth to create and foster long term healthy bonds with adult mentors. Mentors are who the youth come to confide in, seek advice, or vent. Our Executive Director, Courtney, is our only full time paid staff member and we rely heavily on volunteers and community support. Most of our meals are provided and served by our kitchen volunteers and our Direct Volunteers go through 18 hours of training before they can begin volunteering with our youth. As a true grass-roots non-profit, none of our funding comes from government grants and we rely completely on our community for donations to fill our clothing closet and continue to keep our programs running. In 2019, after 10 years of serving on Thursday, we began offering service twice a week on both Monday and Thursday.
